"Sunset" is dawning of a new age

Film premieres in Kinston, next movie to be filmed in Lenoir County.

CNN will conduct no red carpet interviews. Neither will celebrity-laden Lear jets be landing at the Global TransPark, or will heralding trumpets precede the roaring MGM lion.

However, Kinston, "We're on the Way" for the world premiere of a feature length motion picture, "Sunset," at 7p.m. April 11 at the Community Council for the Arts. The general public is invited. Dress code is "come as you are" - blue jeans or black tie. Admission is free and refreshments will be provided.

In the film, creative inspiration is challenged as a young artist named Josie struggles to balance her goals with the responsibility of taking care of her grandfather, Nathan, who is in the early stages of Alzheimer's.

New doors open and a potential relationship surfaces when an art dealer named Ian shows interest in Josie's work. As the story progresses, both Josie and Ian are reminded of the true motivation behind what drives them to connect them to the world around them.

The two filmmakers, Will Vernon and Ryen Thomas, have deep roots in Kinston and Lenoir County. Both are graduates of the North Carolina School of the Arts, School of Filmmaking in Winston-Salem. Both have resumes with experience in television, music video production and feature films, including Disney/Pixar's "Cars," Hallmark's "The Locket" and "Water Wide" and the Sundance and Cannes' selection, "Junebug."

Thomas is an associate producer with the Inspirational Network in Charlotte. He also graduated from the Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts as a visual arts major. He is the grandson of William and Ida Mae Howell of Kinston.

Vernon grew up in the Southwood community and graduated from Lenoir Community College before completing his studies in filmmaking. He is a full-time editor for the Broadcast Group in Charlotte and is the son of Rick and Jane Vernon of Kinston.
