NC Commerce Reopens Applications for Film Grant Program
July 27, 2015

$4M immediately available for productions wishing to film in North Carolina

RALEIGH - The North Carolina Department of Commerce has reopened its application process for the states film and entertainment grant. The application will remain open until 5 p.m. on Friday, August 7. At this time, $4 million is currently available from an allocation that was part of the 2014/15 fiscal budget.

Administered by the North Carolina Department of Commerce and marketed by the North Carolina Film Office, the grant program replaces the states previous 25% refundable tax credit which ended on December 31, 2014.

Projects seeking to apply for the grant must have a direct in-state spend of at least $5 million for feature films, $250,000 per episode for television series, and $250,000 for commercials. The grant will rebate productions up to 25% back on their qualified in-state spend but will not exceed $5 million per feature film or television series or $250,000 per commercial. Any project awarded grant funds must be able to begin principal photography within 100 days of being offered an award.

Funding level for the film and entertainment grant for the 2015/16 and 2016/17 fiscal years are still being discussed by the state legislature as part of the ongoing budget process.
