Kevin Costner returns to highlight 20th anniversary of "Bull Durham"
May 28, 2008
DURHAM - In honor of the 20th Anniversary of the hit movie "Bull Durham", the Durham Bulls are pleased to announce Hollywood star Kevin Costner and his band, Modern West, are coming to Durham to celebrate Independence Day with a concert at the DBAP on July 4, 2008. Costner starred in the role of Crash Davis, an aging catcher sent down to A-ball to work with a young pitching prospect on the Durham Bulls. The city of Durham's annual fireworks extravaganza will follow the concert.
"This is really exciting for the Triangle," Durham Bulls General Manager Mike Birling said, "Our season long celebration of the 20th Anniversary of Bull Durham couldn't have a better highlight than bringing Kevin Costner back to Durham."
From his breakthrough roles in "Silverado", "The Untouchables", "No Way Out", and "Bull Durham", to the Academy Award-winning "Dances With Wolves" to the box office smash success of "Field Of Dreams", "The Bodyguard", "JFK", "Robin Hood", "Tin Cup", and "Open Range", Kevin Costner has left an indelible mark on movie history. Kevin Costner's next film, "Swing Vote", starring Costner, Kelsey Grammer, Dennis Hopper, and Stanley Tucci will be released in August 2008.
As the leader of Kevin Costner & Modern West, Costner has stepped from the big screen to the concert stage with a remarkable band that is as hard working and honest as the characters he has portrayed throughout his films.
Born from a love of music and comprised of a tight knit group of long time friends, Kevin Costner & Modern West draw their influences from a broad tapestry of American music and beyond.
The show itself flows from original material penned by the band to songs written by some of Kevin's famous musical friends. The band sprang from the roots of Costner's very first band, Roving Boy, which had been placed on hiatus as his acting career skyrocketed.
Now, some twenty years later, the core of this band, Kevin, John Coinman and Blair Forward have reunited as Kevin Costner & Modern West. Rounding out the band is lead guitarist Teddy Morgan and drummer Larry Cobb.
