Two NC films make AFI's "10 top 10" lists

Film industry judges tapped by the American Film Institute named "Bull Durham" and "Blue Velvet" among their top-10 categories in the Sports and Mystery categories, respectively.

"Bull Durham", shot in Durham and other locations in North Carolina, tells the tale of losing minor-league baseball team and a promising player (Kevin Costner) who finds romance in the arms of seductive English teacher (Susan Sarandon). The film is marking it's 20th anniversary this year and ranked #5 in the top-10 Sports category.

Director David Lynch delves into a dark world of evil and intrigue in the 1986 thriller, "Blue Velvet," starring Isabella Rosselini and Kyle MacLachlan. Shot in the Wilmington area, it placed eighth in the Mystery category.
