RALEIGH - The Squeeze, which filmed in North Carolinas Wilmington Region in 2013, is now in select theaters and is available OnDemand and by digital download through such platforms as iTunes and Amazon.

Starring Jeremy Sumpter (Friday Night Lights, Soul Surfer, Peter Pan), Christopher McDonald (Happy Gilmore, Harry's Law, Requiem for a Dream), Jillian Murray (Never Back Down 2) and Katherine LaNasa (The Campaign, Alfie), the film is the story of a humble young man (Sumpter) with uncommon skills from a small southern town who gets caught up in high stakes golf matches between big-time gamblers until the game becomes life and death.

The production filmed primarily in New Hanover and Pender Counties. According to an audit on the production done by the NC Department of Revenue, The Squeeze had a direct in-state spend in excess of $2 million while providing 80 job opportunities over the course of 3 months.

The Squeeze was part of a strong 2013 for North Carolina in the film and television industry as the total amount of direct in-state spending by productions topped $254 million. That year, more than 60 projects filed with the North Carolina Film Office and are estimated to have created in excess of 4,000 crew positions and another 20,000+ talent and background extras opportunities over the course of a record-breaking total of more than 5,700 production days. In addition, filming on productions in that year took place in more than 30 of the states 100 counties. Highlights of productions filming in 2013 included filming on the television series Sleepy Hollow (Season 1), Under The Dome (Season 1), Banshee (Season 2), Homeland (Season 3) and Eastbound & Down (Season 4) as well as the feature films Tammy, The World Made Straight, and Tusk and national commercials for Mountain Dew, Audi, Fiat, and Planters.
