October 28, 2010
BLOWING ROCK - Locally filmed Mandie and the Cherokee Treasure will premiere in Blowing Rock on Saturday, November 6, at Blowing Rock School. With two show times, 2 and 7 p.m., the premiere will benefit Blowing Rock C.A.R.E.S., a non-profit organization helping local families in need of food, non-perishable items and clothing. Several members of the cast are expected to be in attendance.
Based on the popular "Mandie" children's book series, Cherokee Treasure takes a deeper look at the main character's Cherokee heritage and life in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina.
The feature was shot last April in various locations in Western North Carolina, with a large portion on location at local theme park, Tweetsie Railroad. The movie took advantage of Tweetsie's Old West Town and the park's historic steam engine, No. 12.
Mandie and the Cherokee Treasure is rated G and stars Golden Globe winner Hayley Mills.
Tickets for the premiere are $8 and can be purchased by calling Blowing Rock School at 828.295.3204.
