February 3, 2015
AUSTIN - The North Carolina-filmed independent feature One and Two has been selected to make its North American debut at the 2015 South By Southwest (SXSW) Film Festival as part of the festivals Visions category, SXSW organizers announced today. The Visions category is comprised of filmmakers the festival considers audacious, risk-taking artists in the new cinema landscape who demonstrate raw innovation and creativity in documentary and narrative filmmaking.
One and Two is a suspense/thriller about two siblings who discover a supernatural escape from a troubled home, but find their bond tested when reality threatens to tear their family apart. The film stars Kiernan Shipka (Mad Men, Very Good Girls, Flowers in the Attic), Timothee Chalamet (NC-filmed Homeland, Interstellar), Elizabeth Reaser (The Twilight Saga, Greys Anatomy), and Grant Bowler (Defiance, Ugly Betty). It is directed by Andrew Droz Palermo (Sundance selection Rich Hill), who also wrote the screenplay along with Neima Shahdadi, and was produced by Matt Perniciaro (NC-filmed Grass Stains, Fanboys), Kim Sherman (Youre Next), Michael Sherman (NC-filmed Grass Stains) and Patrick Wood (Wild Canaries).
The production shot in the summer of 2014 in the Piedmont Triad Region and features one of the states historic sites, Horne Creek Farm in Pinnacle, as its main location. The selection of One and Two marks the second straight year an NC-filmed production has been selected for SXSW, as the 2012-filmed Honeymoon was part of last years festival line-up.
The 2015 SXSW Film Festival is set for March 13-21. SXSW has continually seen its participation numbers rise as the festival and conference continues to champion the vitality, innovation and opportunity that drives entertainment and media while tackling the evolution of all aspects of film today. In addition to One and Two, the 2015 festival line-up includes the much anticipated features Spy, Get Hard, Love & Mercy, and Manglehorn, which was directed by UNC School of the Arts alumnus David Gordon Green.
Part of another banner year for film production in North Carolina, One and Two was one of more than 50 productions that filmed in the state in 2014. Combined, these productions tallied more than $316 million in direct in-state spending over the course of 3,300 production days. The activity created more than 19,000 job opportunities, including 3,000+ well-paying crew positions.
