NC-filmed CAPTIVE In Theaters Friday

RALEIGH - The North Carolina filmed drama Captive hits theatres nationwide this Friday, September 18, with special preview screenings taking place on Thursday.
Filmed primarily in Mecklenburg and Gaston counties, the feature stars Golden Globe nominee and RiverRun International Film Festival (Winston-Salem) Spark Award honoree David Oyelowo (Selma) and Kate Mara (House of Cards, Fantastic Four, 127 Hours) and is based on the non-fiction book "An Unlikely Angel" by Ashley Smith. In the film, Oyelowo plays Brian Nichols, an inmate who escapes from the Fulton County Courthouse in Atlanta in March 2005, killing the presiding judge and a court reporter while also injuring a local law enforcement official, and holds Smith, played by Mara, hostage in her home.
Production on Captive took place in North Carolina in 2013 and according to documents filed with the state had a direct in-state spend in excess of $2 million. The feature was produced by BN Films and is being distributed by Paramount Pictures.
Captive was one of more than 60 productions who registered with the North Carolina Film Office in 2013 that resulted in having an economic impact in excess of $243 million while creating more than 4,000 well-paying job crew positions for the states highly skilled film professionals and nearly 25,000 total job opportunities over the course of a record-high 5,700+ production days that year. In addition to Captive, highlights from 2013 included filming on the feature films Tammy, Tusk, The World Made Straight, Grass Stains and The Squeeze, the television series Under The Dome, Sleepy Hollow, Banshee, Homeland and Eastbound and Down, and the made for television movies Christmas In Conway, Norman Rockwells Shuffletons Barbershop and The Perfect Summer as well as national commercials for Mountain Dew, ESPN, Planters, Audi and Fiat.
